Renting in Buenos Aires

The minimum contract for rentals is 2 years -- everything else is considered a temporary rental and costs more. Additionally, the majority of owners want a property guarantee which can only be obtained if you have property in Capital Federal (province of the City of Buenos Aires).

A good place to find temporary rentals is ByT Argentina as they have great apartments, are very professional, and handle the money and contracts between the owner and renter. The people at ByT speak English and can even arrange to meet you after-hours.

The best place to find long-term rentals is www.argenprop.com as the majority of agents (inmobiliarias) use this service. You should be prepared to provide a substantial deposit in place of a "guarantía" -- at least 6 to 12 months. You should not mention that you do not have a DNI or a guarantee until after you have seen the apartment and can talk to them in-person; otherwise, they will most likely say 'no'. You should ask the agent if the owner wants a guarantee, and if so, ask them to speak to the owner about leaving a cash bond. A common arrangement is a deposit that is applied towards rent and owners do not like this, so you should be sure to state that the money is to be held for the term of the rental.
